New Look, New Thinking

I’m a notorious tweaker of my blog (at least in my own house). I’ve tried lots of themes, all the fonts, different widgets and plugins. But the results were always the same.

I always wanted more.

And it kept me in a perpetual state of thinking my blog wasn’t good enough, my content not shareable enough and my direction unclear enough. I’ve spent days of my life chasing the blogging wisdom and traffic ideas.

But none of it feels like it actually answers any questions.

Last week I changed the tagline of the blog. Now, I’ve changed the look of the blog as well. It’s simpler, cleaner and (I hope) more useful. You’ll find things are as shiny as they used to be, perhaps, but I’m hoping to shine in other ways these days.

There won’t be any pictures in my posts, no in your face begging for subscriptions. My posts will mostly be shorter and more succinct. I’ll only be focusing on Twitter and Facebook, and even those I probably won’t update as much. I’ve spent far too much time on those things instead of creating something for you that matters, like another eBook.

In this day and age, the only thing that gets rewarded is creating something unique. There are millions of other blogs that do the same things. I don’t want to be one of them anymore. In fact, I don’t want this to be my thing at all.

I want it to be ours.

I hope you enjoy the new look. (If you’re reading this in an email or RSS reader, click here to check it out.) And I hope you find the change in direction refreshing and helpful. Judging from some of the comments on my latest posts, I think we’re headed in a good direction.

I hope you enjoy you’re weekend. I’m so looking forward to talking to you next week.

What do you think about the new look? If you blog, do you struggle with the same things?

Leave a comment and let’s talk.

    Grayson,

Like the new look. Cleaner and simpler. Though the last one was too. :) I struggled some last year with blogging and if I wanted to continue it. Then I realized I was blogging for the wrong reasons. There are a lot of great writers in our little community which is growing daily and it feels like we’re all competing to be heard. This made me change the direction of my blog.

    Things I decided:

    No schedule.
    No heavy promotion.
Don’t focus on perfection, just write.
Point of a blog is not to build a platform but to create community. Most importantly, to share our stories.

Don’t get discouraged if traffic decreases in this space. Write for you, no one else. Write from the heart. If your heart is right with God everything will flow naturally and you won’t worry about the minor details.

    Stay focused on Him.

Your blog has and continues to inspire me and I know it does so many other people. Your little family and you are an inspiration to so many people. Know that.

    Keep writing, Grayson.

I like the look. Very clean.
I think I struggled with this a little bit at the beginning. But then I got to the point where I wanted to spend time on the things that really mattered. I’ve also seen that the ups and downs of traffic and exposure and design and even getting hacked just didn’t really affect me that much.

I never saw your blog before but the clean look with short post is what drew me to your blog when I found it. Love it!
